Sea habitat

What more it characterizes the sea environment of the Park Submerged of Bay it is his "symbiosis" between history of the man and sea life. And is in fact impossible to separate the archaeological aspects from the biological aspects as her almost totality of the so-called hard substratum on which it sticks, proliferates and finds shelter big part of the sea organisms; it is constituted really from the submerged archaeological structures. These last, in fact, appears on the surface from a sandy fund to lines colonized by grasslands of sea fanerogame as knotty Cymodocea and, in thinner way, of oceanic Posidonia as which they still serve capolino beautiful samples of Fin nobilis. As the sea fanerogames it is known, and oceanic Posidonias, represent particularly a fundamental habitat for the Mediterranean, being considered areas of "nursery" for a lot of forms of life. Between ravines of walls and colonnades, here that a great variety of organisms of environment "rocky" it finds nourishment and shelter.

Octopuses, small shellfishes and fishes of rock-cliff as serranidi, labridi and blennidi wander unmolested between rests of buildings and submerged roads, ideal surfaces of adhesion for more sedentary organisms as algae, sponges, anemones, curly of sea and sea stars. Surely, however, from the one biological point of view the backdrops of great interest are those of the Smoky Shoal. Among the imposing quadrangular pilaes, that constitute the shoal, it is possible to observe a real mosaic of forms of life distributed in operation some depth, of the exposure to the solar rays and of the idrodinamismo. Such shoal owes its name to the numerous exhalations of warm water and sulphurous anhydride, that form evident yellow deposits on the fund and a characteristic white patina of downy aspect on the nearest walls.
